The 2017 recipient of the Capital City Chorus Music Award at University of Indianapolis, is Samantha  Burkey, a Music Education major, from Wolcotville, IN, who will begin her senior year in the Fall. While in high school, Samantha participated in Show Choir, Concert Choir, Jazz Band, Concert Band and Marching Band, and assisted in directing the junior high's musicals. Her music activity at UIndy includes Concert Choir, Jazz Choir, Women’s Chorus, and being an officer in the Indiana Music Educators Association chapter on campus, just named NAfME’s Collegiate Chapter of the Year (National Association for Music Education).

Samantha’s aspirations after graduation are to "teach middle school choir and help nurture a really great middle school music program!" Samantha says she enjoys taking long walks with her husband, and states, “Music to me means being part of a community or family. It is also the greatest form of expression of the emotions. There is nothing more beautiful than the fact that music is universal and connects people everywhere."
