Capital City Chorus Music Award Recipient Announced at University of Indianapolis

17 Apr. 2019 Posted by Beth Guzman

Capital City Chorus (CCC) values its relationship with the University of Indianapolis, and is proud to be able to provide the funds for the Capital City Chorus Music Award.

The 2019 recipient of the Capital City Chorus Music Award at University of Indianapolis is Anna Miller, a Music Education major from West Lafayette, IN.

Ana has been singing and performing in church from a very young age and continues to do so today. She loved musical theater and in high school was a member of the show choir, the mixed chamber choir, and a female vocal jazz choir. She also performed in musicals at school and dinner theater shows in the community. Outside of performing, she had the opportunity to student-direct a few of her high school productions.

As a performer, she is currently a member of UIndy’s Concert Choir as well as a vocal jazz/pop group called Crimson Express. She also participates in an Opera Scenes class and has previously sung with the Collaborative Piano Ensemble.  Another musical interest she has been able to explore is music technology as she works in the performance hall as a student audio engineer.

A few of Amy's hobbies include painting, running, traveling, and listening to podcasts.

Music is something that Amy cannot imagine her life without.  She says, "It started out as a hobby; it was just something that I liked to do. However, it has become so much more than that. Music inspires me and is one of my greatest passions. Being able to create, perform, and experience music in a variety of ways is something that I hope to do throughout my life. Music has the power to heal, to transport, and to connect people from all walks of life and sharing that with others brings me so much joy".

After graduation, Amy hopes to be an elementary school teacher.  She wants to share her love of music with her students by teaching them fundamental music skills as well as how much fun music-making can be.
